Frequently Asked Questions

We at New Generation Parking would like to point out a few facts to people in general, as we have noticed an increase in calls relating to the following questions and answers.

Q: Are you a private company?
A: We are a privately limited company registered in England and Wales.

Q: Can you operate on public roads as a private company?
A: No. Public roads are for police/traffic wardens and local authorities. We only operate on private property.

Q: How do you know the difference between a private road and a public road?
A: Good question. Firstly we would organise a site survey, which consists of photographs, boundaries & some notes. Then we would carry out our own independent land search to establish  ownership of the private land and boundaries.  Once that is done and all is order, an agreement will be put in place by both parties.

Q: How long does the agreement last?
A: The agreement is put in place for a minimum of 12 months.

Q: Is this legal and can anyone do it?
A: Yes it is legal for those who have been licensed by the Security Industry Authority (SIA) and follow the terms and conditions of the licence, set out by the governing bodies.

Q: If your company is legal why is it you have a London mailing address service and you operate from Cardiff?
A: We use a mailing address service in order to forward all our complaints and appeals  to our head office which is in London but due to the nature of this business, we need to defect and control any conflict which may arise.  We also operate in Swindon, Bristol, Bath, Gloucester, Cardiff, Swansea etc.  And all operatives are highly trained and well disciplined.

Q: Why are your signs only on one side of the street and you clamp on the opposite side of the street?
A: Under some circumstances we are not able to fix signs on both sides. But the signs in question are printed with a cannery yellow background with black and red print, which makes this highly visible, and cover a range of 25 meters per sign. It is the driver’s responsibility to park their vehicle safely, securely and legally.

Q: How can you do this to people?
A: Some people are quick enough to pass the blame over to us. When in actual fact, they do it to themselves. They see the signs and decide to take a chance or they park their vehicles without checking if they are legally parked.

Q: Do you split the money you charge with the land owners?
A:  The service we provide is self funding. We do not split nor pay land owners anything.  The agreement is in place for 12 months. And what we find is after 3 months there is very little revenue generated, but we still provide the service.  If however the site in question is not part of our patrol route we will need to discuss a monthly service charge.

Q: Do you hide behind walls and bushes waiting for your ‘victims’?
A: I can assure you that this does not happen. As all vehicles are fitted with at least 4 CCTV cameras. Some covert and some in full view mounted on the dash boards.  Also vehicles are fitted with trackers which record location, speed, direction, if the vehicle is running, idle or switched off.

Q: Do you know about the webpage that has been set up about one of your sites in Cardiff?
A: Do you mean the one with the copyright material on it, referring to us as criminals? We are aware of the site.

Q: Why are clampers associated with criminals?
A: Because pre 2003 the majority of them were criminals, operating without governing bodies.  In 2003, the SIA were formed; the beginning of the end for the rouge clampers. Licensing laws were put in place in 2003 by the governing body (Security Industry Authority). It is a criminal offence to immobilise (clamp) any vehicle without a licence. The consequences will only result in a very large fine and imprisonment.

We will update this page as and when we receive unique questions.
